Holmes Beach & Anna Maria Island: Your Complete Visitor Guide
Anna Maria Island is one of Florida''s best-kept secrets. Discover the charm of Holmes Beach, the best restaurants, hidden beaches, and why guests keep coming back year after year.
Holmes Beach & Anna Maria Island: Your Complete Visitor Guide
Anna Maria Island is the kind of place that travel writers describe as "undiscovered" — even though it absolutely has been discovered. What they mean is that it still feels undiscovered. No high-rise hotels. No chain restaurants on every corner. No neon signs or souvenir shops selling plastic flamingos. Just seven miles of pristine Gulf Coast barrier island with a soul that's been carefully protected by the people who love it.
Holmes Beach sits in the middle of the island and is where you'll find our Peacock Paradise and Pink Peacock vacation rentals. It's the largest of the island's three communities and the most convenient base for exploring everything Anna Maria Island has to offer.
What Makes Anna Maria Island Different
Most Florida beach destinations have been developed to within an inch of their lives. Anna Maria Island took a different path. The island has strict building height restrictions (no structure over 35 feet), which means the skyline is all palm trees and rooftops — not condos. There's a free trolley that runs the length of the island. The pace is slow by design.
Locals here are fiercely protective of what they have, and as a visitor, you'll benefit from that. The beaches are clean, the water is clear, and the vibe is genuinely relaxed.
The Beaches
Manatee Public Beach in Holmes Beach is the island's most popular public beach and for good reason — wide, white sand, calm Gulf water, and great facilities including restrooms, showers, and a snack bar. It gets busy on weekends but is manageable on weekdays.
Coquina Beach at the south end of the island is a local favorite for its natural beauty and slightly less crowded atmosphere. The parking lot fills up but the beach itself is long enough that you can always find space.
Bean Point at the north tip of the island is the most secluded and arguably the most beautiful. It's a short walk from the nearest parking and rewards the effort with stunning views where the Gulf meets Tampa Bay.
Holmes Beach (the beach itself) — The stretch of Gulf-front beach accessible from Holmes Beach is excellent for swimming and shelling. Our rental properties are a short walk from here.
Getting Around: The Free Trolley
One of Anna Maria Island's best features is the free trolley that runs from Coquina Beach at the south end all the way to the City Pier at the north end. It runs daily and stops at all the major beaches, restaurants, and attractions.
This means you can leave the car at your rental, hop on the trolley, and spend the whole day exploring without worrying about parking. It's a genuinely great system and one of the things that makes the island so livable.

Practical Tips for Your Visit
Parking: Parking on AMI can be challenging in peak season. Our rental properties include free parking, which is a significant advantage. Use the free trolley to avoid parking headaches when exploring.
Weather: Summer afternoons bring brief but intense thunderstorms. Plan outdoor activities for mornings and early afternoons. The storms usually pass quickly.
Crowds: The island is busiest from December through April and on summer weekends. Weekday visits in the shoulder season (May, September–November) offer the best combination of good weather and manageable crowds.
Sunsets: Anna Maria Island sunsets are genuinely spectacular. The west-facing beaches give you an unobstructed view over the Gulf. Don't miss them.
